WFPD Centennial
March22, 2025
On Saturday March 22, 2025, the Woodside Fire Protection District celebrated its 100th birthday and official opening of the new Fire Station 7 on Woodside Road with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house.
There were lots of visitors, dignitaries, officials, our WFPD staff, CERTs and families with plenty of kids ! Oh and there was plenty of food, coffee and cookies !
All the equipment was out on display, from vintage fire engines to the latest tankers, command vehicles, and more. Surprisingly, all were open which the kids took as an invitation to climb in and press all the buttons. Regularly, some engine's sirens would start, everyone stood still, and a firefighter ran to the car in question, removed the fear-paralyzed child and reset the siren. Good fun.
We had a small CERT presence with a canopy, tables, slideshow, orange family medical kits and red mobile full medical bags. Vicki, Lynn, Jon, Robert, Selena, Mark, Kam and Ray could all be spotted during the event.
Selena brought a dazzling variety of kid attracting tschatsckis, making the public information tables teeming with sub 10 year olds quite a contrast to our very modestly occupied CERT area. Maybe we should have treats for the adults to lure them over more effectively ?
We will be back at Station 7 for the current CERT basic training class hands on skills day and final exercise on March 29. All existing CERTs are welcome to join for a refresher or act as victims or observers during the exercise part which is from noon to 16:00 - please email Kam if you would like to join !
