CERT Basic Skills Training Class
Taking the CERT Basic skills training can help you, your family, and your community know how to respond when disasters strike. You will also become a member of our active WPV-CERT team and become acquainted with the resources, people and places we have to be prepared !
The basic skills training consists of 8 evening classes (locations will vary as we try to offer them in different areas of our Woodside/Portola Valley community) and an day of hand-on skills training & exercise at Fire Station 7 in Woodside.
We offer these trainings twice a year, once in the Winter (Feb/Mar) and once in Fall (Sep/Oct) Classes are taught by our local CERT experts in Incident Command Management, Medical Operations and Search & Rescue and Radio Operations.
Winter 2025 - Basic Skills Course
Tuesdays Feb 4th to March 25th, 6:30-9:30pm @ PV Ranch House
Saturday March 29th, 9 am - 4 pm @ WFPD Station 7

Registration fee is $35 (sponsorships available. No one will be turned away for lack of funds) and includes:

CERT Field Operating Guide (FOG) Manual
Family Disaster First Aid Kit
The curriculum follows the nationwide CERT materials developed by FEMA:

Unit 3: Medical Operations, Part 1
Unit 4: Medical Operations, Part 2
Unit 5: Light Search and Rescue
Unit 6: ICS and CERT Organization
Unit 7: Disaster Psychology
Unit 8: CERT and Terrorism
Unit 9: Hands-on Skills Training and Exercise
As a trained CERT member, you will receive a backpack with CERT gear, helmet, vest, etc. as well as a family first aid kit (which we also have for sale if anyone wants it without the training). You will also get a badge and be part of our Disaster Service Workers insurance.
